Hello & Welcome!

Hi, I'm Christine Gallagher but you can call me

Chris as all my friends do.

As you may have guessed by now, I am an Artist specialising in mixed media some of which is displayed in the slideshow on this page.  My work is steeped in nostalgia and aims to be a celebration of the lives of ordinary people as we knew them as our Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles or dear friends and neighbours.  Although I take my inspiration from old family photographs, I believe the people I depict are instantly recognisable to most of us, evoking bittersweet memories of our shared histories.

I often begin with collage and then I introduce image transfer techniques using either photocopies of photos or of my original drawings, overlayed with paint and ink to create a multilayered work combining both figurative and abstract elements.

I have been teaching art as an independent tutor since 2007, running courses and workshops for students and adults of all ages and ability levels.

I am also a fine art painter and have had my work displayed at the Mall Galleries as part of the prestigious Columbia Threadneedle Prize exhibition in 2016 and have gone on to sell my work overseas and to UK buyers via independent and joint exhibitions in the UK.

To see more of my work both past and present, please visit my portfolio website via the link on this page and please do not hesitate to contact me if you wish to discuss commissions, purchasing or publishing my work in any form.
