Hello & Welcome!

Christine Gallagher Artist.jpg

Hi, I'm Christine Gallagher but you can call me Chris as all my friends do.

As you may have guessed by now, I am an Artist specialising in mixed media some of which is displayed in the slideshow on this page.

I am also a fine art painter and have had my work displayed at the Mall Galleries as part of the prestigious Columbia Threadneedle Prize exhibition in 2016 and have gone on to sell my work overseas and to UK buyers via independent and joint exhibitions in the UK.

My mixed media work is steeped in nostalgia and aims to be a celebration of the lives of ordinary people as we knew them as our Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles or dear friends and neighbours. Although I take my inspiration from old family photographs, I believe the people I depict are instantly recognisable to most of us, evoking bittersweet memories of our shared histories.

I often begin with collage and then I introduce image transfer techniques using either photocopies of photos or of my original drawings, overlayed with paint and ink to create a multilayered work combining both figurative and abstract elements.

I have been teaching art as an independent tutor since 2007, running courses and workshops for students and adults of all ages and ability levels.  Due to these uncertain times where gatherings aren't always possible, I have taken my teaching online and I am now teaching the methods I use to create my own work via the Jump Into Mixed Media course available to sign up and buy on this website...find out more.

To see more of my work both past and present, please visit my portfolio website and also my YouTube channel and subscribe to view all my free tutorial content.
