It is generally accepted that dolls represent human babies and are often gifted to children (usually female) to care for, presumably in order to instill notions of parental responsibility and appreciation for that which is more vulnerable than ourselves. So, to see a doll that has been damaged and cast aside can evoke some very deep-seated and complex emotions, particularly if you have experienced any kind of childhood trauma as a result of neglect or indifference.
Using the broken doll as a metaphor, my aim was to explore these emotions in more depth via these artworks using a range of mediums and techniques to create a narrative constructed purely by the viewer.
This is an ongoing project which will expand over time but for now, here are the outcomes and processes of these two works.
